Faith Works

James 4:1-6

“What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures. You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: “He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us”? But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.”

Church Vision Statemen

We are a biblically rooted church that wants to help you overcome life’s emptiness through a deeper relationship with Christ and connection to a family who cares.

Transformation Questions:

  • What is the difference in praying for something out of right motives and wrong motives?
  • Can you pray for something that will benefit you?
  • Are there things you are unsure of if it is okay to pray? Or what things make you uncomfortable to pray for and why?
  • What are some positive outcomes that could come from our quarantine?
  • Of all the pain and suffering that has come from COVID-19 as well as the country shut down, how do you see God being glorified in this situation?
  • Have you picked up some bad habits during quarantine?
  • We have all this time. We need to use it well or we will waste it. What are two habits or things you would like to accomplish during the quarantine?
  • Now that we have been slowed down for a few weeks, are there any areas of your life that God revealed are not healthy that you want to avoid bringing back into your life?
  • What things have you struggled with the most during quarantine?
  • How would you define hostility? What does friendship mean to you? How do those ideas fit what James is saying in verse 4?
  • James says friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God. Have you found the opposite to be true (friendship with God brought hostility from the world)? In what ways?
  • How does it feel knowing the God of the universe wants a relationship with you? Not only that, but God is jealous of the things that compete for your love and attention.
  • God jealously wants a relationship with you. What things are in your life that would cause God jealously?
  • What can you do this Easter week to be missional in our community and in your family?
