Life Disrupted

Genesis 12:1-6

Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you, all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. 5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people that they had acquired in Haran, and they set out to go to the land of Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan, 6 Abram passed through the land to the place at Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. 7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring, I will give this land.”

Main Point:

The call of God for us is to be faithful in what we know God wants from us and to trust God with what is unknown by us.

Church Vision Statemen

We are a biblically rooted church that wants to help you overcome life’s emptiness through a deeper relationship with Christ and connection to a family who cares.

Transformation Questions:

  • Do you feel like you have ever clearly felt the hand of the Lord calling you or leading you to do something?
  • What was your call? Do you feel like you lived it out?
  • Abraham’s father’s name was Terah which means to “hinder.” Abraham was hindered from going to the land that God promised him for years because he followed his father. What are some of the things in your life that you feel like are hindering you from living out God’s call or things that you feel like have hindered the blessing of God in your life in the past?
  • Has God ever asked you to do something, like giving money or telling someone about your faith, and you felt yourself trying to rationalize or redefine what God was asking you to do?
  • God did not speak to Abraham during the time that Abraham settled the land of Haran, which means “parched”. Has there been a time in your life that you would consider spiritually parched?
  • If you are, or have been, in a spiritually parched place, how do you think that you would go about getting out of it?
  • Could you even imagine how Abraham felt to finally get to the land that God promised only to find it filled with Canaanites? Have you ever took what you felt was a step of obedience to just find another roadblock? What was your response?
