Parables

Luke 12:13-31

Church Vision Statement

We are a biblically rooted church that wants to help you overcome life’s emptiness through a deeper relationship with Christ and a connection to a family who cares.

Main Point:

While the world is ever-changing and volatile, God is never changing and stable, so refrain from worry and seek first His Kingdom.

Read Luke 12:22-31

22 And He said to His disciples, “For this reason I say to you, [c]do not worry about your life, as to what you will eat; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds! 25 And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life’s span? 26 If then you cannot do even a very little thing, why do you worry about other matters? 27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 28 But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you? You men of little faith! 29 And do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not keep worrying. 30 For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things. 31 But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you.

Transformation Questions:

  • Recap from last week:
    • What parable did we talk about and what was the point of the parable?
    • How did you use your talents this week?
  • For those of you who have had children or maybe those of you are hoping to one day have children, what are the things that caused you the most worry and anxiety?
  • If we were not living through the Corona crisis right now, what are normal stresses for you that cause you to be anxious or feel worried?
  • In our current political climate and with Corona-virus, what things do you feel like are causing built-up anxiety?
  • Jesus basically says that worrying is worthless. Worry does not add anything to you. Worry just takes. Worry takes your time. Worry takes your joy. Worry takes you away from enjoying the moment that God has given you. Have you ever seen someone self-destruct in a situation because they allowed worry to overwhelm them?
  • Give an example in your life where you allowed worry to steal your time and joy? What effects did it have on you and the lives around you?
  • What does a life filled with worry and anxiety preach to those around us?
  • In contrast, what does a life of contentment and peace in suffering or in good times preach to the world around us?
